PMS, odour, bloating, pain.. sometimes we have a lot to contend with when it comes to our bodies ! But don’t worry – we’ve got your back. These issues are totally manageable. Here’s what you can do to deal with some common girl problems.
Period Pain
That time of the month can be awful, but it doesn’t need to be. Period pain, although nasty, can be managed. An old fashioned but soothing remedy is a hot water bottle. A hottie can help for mild period pain as it increases blood flow to the area. Increased blood flow may help reduce pain causing compounds.
Over the counter pain medications will also help you manage the pain. Gentle exercise can also help with pain management. Those feel-good endorphins released during exercise make a difference to how you feel. If your pain is severe then it might be time to book in to see your GP. There are several conditions that can cause severe period pain and it’s important to get these treated.
PMS
PMS has a wide range of symptoms, from mood swings, irritability, tiredness, sore breasts and fluid retention and we can thank our hormones for this. To manage your PMS naturally, there are a number of steps you can take. Firstly a healthy diet can help. Avoid refined carbohydrates, sugar and minimise alcohol and caffeine. Eat plenty of vegetables, some fruit and healthy fats, including omega 3 fats from oily fish. Choose unrefined carbohydrates. Include a small serve of protein at most meals too.
Supplement wise, Vitamin B6, magnesium and Evening Primrose oil have been found to be useful for some in treating PMS. Even though you don’t always feel like exercise when you’ve got a bad case of PMS, keeping up regular exercise can help. Those endorphins help improve your mood and can help with fluid balance.
Vaginal Odour
Vaginal odour isn’t uncommon. The first step to take if you notice odour is to see your GP or nurse to make sure there isn’t an infection. Often though, vaginal odour is just caused by sweat – (yep, we have have sweat glands in our vaginal area), so a busy day in hot weather, exercise and just day to day activity can cause odour.
