When you’re busy and trying to fit exercise into your schedule, a well equipped gym bag helps make working out a little more effortless. Keeping a few key items in your bag can help keep you fresh, fuelled and comfortable for your workout – and saves those last minute annoyances like not having socks in your bag. Here’s some of my favourite essentials for your gym bag:
A specific gym towel is useful not just for wiping away sweat, but for using during floor work (hello sit ups!) and to use on equipment to sit on (so you don’t get other people’s sweat on you!). I’m loving this Nike Jacquard gym towel – I’ve got a similar one in black.

2. Headband
There’s nothing worse than your hair dangling in your face and sweat dripping in your eyes. A headband solves both these problems. These Active Intent headbands are only $5 – cheap enough to keep a couple of spares in your gym bag.

3. Camelbak Drink bottle
Ditch the disposable drink bottles and get a quality one that will last. I love this Camelbak drink bottle – it’s BPA free, spill proof and really durable. At 750mls, it’s big enough to get you through a gym workout.

4. Extra Socks
There’s nothing more annoying than getting to the gym and realising you haven’t put any socks in your bag. For that reason I always keep a couple of extra pairs of socks in my gym bag. A good quality, thick pair help add cushioning and soak up that sweat to help keep your shoes fresh. These socks from Rebel are a good deal.

6. A Healthy Snack
If you’re working out after work, chances are you’ll be STARVING by the time you get home. A small snack can help keep those hunger pains away and stop you from making bad food choices when you go home. These RAW bars by Ceres Organics are a snack made from using just dried fruit, seeds and nuts and are a yummy option to fill the gap till your next meal.

7. Your ipod/phone with an upbeat play list
Music really sets the tempo of your workout, and I can’t imagine working out without a great play list. Today, most phones have capacity to store music – if not an ipod shuffle is a low cost way to get started.
Some of my favourite workout songs: Little Bad Girl by David Guetta feat Taio Cruz; Rock That Body by Black Eyed Peas and for something a little old school, Pump Up The Jam by Technotronic.
8. Awesome workout gear and shoes
So it’s a bit of a no brainer that you need workout gear for your gym bag, but top quality, comfortable gear and shoes make working out a nicer experience.
There’s nothing worse than tops that ride up, pants that slip down and shoes that leave your feet burning. Check out Rebel for a range of top quality options.
