Michelle Johnston is as gorgeous and as lovely as her online fashion boutique MiSHKA.
MiSHKA is a luxury online shopping platform that launched in August 2012. This premier boutique sells the best of Australian and international designer clothing and accessories. There’s so much I’m drooling over right now, so pay a visit to MiSHKA here or check out their concept store Shop 2, 15 O’Connell Street, Auckland Central.
I had the pleasure of doing a wee interview with her to find out all about how she eats well, stays fit and healthy. Here’s what Michelle had to say:
What is a typical day’s eating for you?
Breakfast is always typically Nicola’s Organic Muesli with almond milk and what I like to call pick ‘n’ mix toppings which change each day– I have a whole array of toppings that I pick and choose from each morning from Flax seeds, shredded coconut, blueberries, LSA, Sunflower seeds etc to make it interesting.
Lunch is usually a salad from Revive cafe in the city as it’s not to far from the store and has delicious food. Dinner is usually a small bit of chicken with Kumara chips (cooked in coconut oil – AMAZING) and a salad and then course I can’t miss something sweet. I also have snacks throughout the day to keep my energy up as I’m always doing a million things at once.
What foods are your fridge and pantry staples?
Always lots of fresh produce that we get from the markets and staples like feta, greek yogurt, flat bread etc but usually we buy what we cook for dinner each day.
What is your favourite way to keep fit?
I workout at the Exercise Room in Parnell and also have my amazing trainer Debbie there who I see once a week to keep me on track, do weight and boxing work with and also for extra motivation. Working 6 days in the store means my time off is valuable so I try to maximise my time at the gym when I go or alternatively do a run outdoors if I need to get some fresh air. I also see the wonderful Phillipa from Remuera Osteopaths every few weeks to keep everything in alignment and work through some of back issues.
Another favourite when I get any spare time is the Hot Yoga in Newmarket – great way to release, unwind and sweat it out!
One healthy habit you never let slide?
I do love and take evening primrose oil and bee pollen ritually and also noni juice if I need the extra kick. I also try to meditate each morning for at least 3 mins no matter how much of a hurry I’m in to help start the day on a good note.
Favourite healthy meal?
My favourite healthy meal is 1 slice of grain toast with avocado, micro greens and poached eggs and parmesan which is usually a weekend brunch staple! Another favourite for dinner is shredded beetroot salad with feta, mint and red onion, mums homemade guacamole and kumara chips.
Favourite food indulgence?
Defiantly raw cakes –my absolute favourite is Megan May’s (Little Bird Organics) recipe for “Summer Berries & Cream Chocolate Christmas tart” -recipe here
Many girls/woman struggle with maintaining a healthy body image. What do you think is key in having a healthy body image and learning to love who you are?
Definitely I was one of them!! I always struggled with it when I lived in Sydney working long hours and putting myself last and thinking of every excuse to not workout and eat properly! When I came to NZ and started training with Debbie is when I started shift my focus – I lost weight slowly and steadily as I started to see results and feel healthier it inspired me to connect more with my body and how it works. I started researching and learning more about natural medicine aka good wholesome food and how to best make use of it – of course I sometimes have moments but I’ve learnt a great balance.
What are your top tips for staying healthy?
Be true to yourself
Positivity breads like rabbits! If you put it out there – people will usually return with positive energy
Small changes in diet can lead to big results over time
If you have instagram you should follow some amazing health pages – my favourite is one of my best friends Talita’s @health_and_me
Surround yourself with people who encourage you to be healthy – I think it’s true what they say about the closest 5 people around you reflect your intentions and lifestyle.
