Believing in yourself sounds like such a simple thing to do, yet when it comes to taking on a new challenge or moving closer to a dream, it’s one of the hardest things. Research shows that self efficacy – or your belief in your ability to accomplish something, is something that needs to be present for us to achieve. But how can we believe in ourselves when our dreams seem so hard to reach? The good news is it is totally possible! Here’s how.
1. Remember we are all human
Yup, we all have our own talents and skills, but in the end, we are all just people who can work towards a goal. You may think someone has something over you, but if you want the same thing as them, for example, to run a half marathon, travel around Europe, buy a house – you can if you work towards it.
2. Have a plan
Big picture stuff is often daunting. Break it down into smaller steps so you have a plan to reach your ‘big picture’. For example, you may not be able to imagine running 21k, but you can run 3k. So slowly build it up each run from there and before you know it, you’ll hit 21k.
3. Consult with the experts
The best people to help you are the ones that know their stuff – whether that’s a nutritionist to help you with your nutrition goals, a trainer to help you run your first half marathon or a mentor to help you with a business idea, those who are experts will be able to help you reach your goals.
